My 9-year olds' eyes lit up when he saw this Nerf Vortex Nitron Blaster. He had been campaigning for something like this for a good while, and couldn't be happier. This is quite a large and formidable looking Nerf-hurler. It mounts a scope, and has a 20-shot magazine that can either be inserted between both pistol grips - as shown in the picture - or just forward of the stock in a 'bull-pup' style configuration. The nerf disks are smallish - being around 1.5" each. You must press down on a safetly lever - beneath the trigger housing - before pulling the trigger. A rather high rate of fire comes out, and the nerf disks travel a good 25' in our test (indoors with no wind). It can be a bit noisy, but nothing too bad. The removable scope works rather nicely. Our boy wasted no time in setting up a row of plastic cups on our couch and picking each one off. You will need a smaller philips head screwdriver to undo the hatch to insert the 6 C batteries.

Between my kids and I, we have all of the Nerf vortex nitron blasters. I have been a fan of nerf guns since I was little, and am impressed with this new line. They are durable, shoot far, and accurately. The disk does have a bit of 'zing' to it; you will feel it if it hits you, especially at close range, but this is the trade-off for longer range. They also ricochet, off of almost everything! The neat side to this, is that you can now try to bounce shots off walls, etc. The downside, is that the little discs end up in the darndest places... My oldest has this blater, and loves it! (to me, it is a bit noisy, and uses a gaggle of batteries to propel the little discs on their way, but he is a big fan of the mechanized shooting action, so I guess it's worth it!
